Unilever HR Leader to Chair ABIS Advisory Board
Doug Baillie, Chief Human Resources Officer of Unilever, has been elected as the Chair of the Advisory Board of ABIS, a global network of 120 multinational companies, business schools and universities committed to enhancing the contribution of business in society.
ABIS serves as a bridge between the corporate and academic worlds to accelerate systemic change in business education and practice. It focuses on transforming the skills and knowledge of current and future executives in line with the increasingly complex business environment of the 21st century.
Unilever was the driving force behind the foundation of ABIS in 2002, and remains one of its most influential supporters. Serving a three year term, Mr. Baillie will lead an Advisory Board featuring top executives from the Academy’s other founding partners, including IBM, Johnson & Johnson, INSEAD, IMD, London Business School, and others.
Following his election, Mr. Baillie said:
“I’m honoured to have been elected to join the ABIS Advisory Board. Business education plays a vital role in developing the talent and insight which helps enable companies like Unilever to grow sustainably. ABIS is a unique platform for industry leaders and top business schools to develop an ambitious, forward-looking agenda”.
Mr. Baillie’s sentiments were echoed by ABIS’ new President, Prof. Alfons Sauquet, also the current Global Dean of ESADE.
"I am delighted that Doug has been elected as Chair of our Advisory Board. His lifelong experience of running Unilever’s businesses around the world gives our network an incredible asset in terms of framing how business education and research can accelerate progress towards a more sustainable future.”
Doug Baillie is a British national, born and educated in Zimbabwe. He graduated from the University of Natal with majors in Business Finance, Marketing and Business Administration and joined Unilever South Africa in 1978. His association with ABIS goes back to 2011, when he took over from Sandy Ogg, his predecessor as Unilever CHRO, as Vice Chair of the (then) ABIS Supervisory Board.
