We invite you to join us to explore sustainable futures with serious gaming, an event that aims to create awareness of the Scenario Exploration System as a serious game and to discuss its versatility and different uses among academia, business and policy.
We are pleased to invite you to participate to the ABIS Exploring sustainable futures with serious gaming event that aims to bring awareness of the Scenario Exploration System, a serious gaming tool developed by the European Commission´s Joint Research Centre, its versatility and use among academia, business and policy.
Scenario Exploration System was originally geared at engaging EU policy makers and facilitating the application of futures thinking to policy-making. Specifically, the SES was designed to help participants, in less than three hours, to engage in systemic thinking with a long-term perspective and to explore alternative futures on specific issues and themes. The SES proved to have a broader range of applications, which led to communities of practice emerging around the tool. The tool was applied beyond its original focus which demonstrated its broad versatility Successful responses to various requests to apply the tool beyond its original focus demonstrated the versatility of the SES and the its main benefits:
- Facilitating and strengthening forward-looking strategic and systemic reflection
- Facilitating engagement with a large number of stakeholders and target audiences both in diversity and in close circles
- Awareness raising and interactive approaches to learning about internal and external complexity of a given subject area
The different approaches generate both intended and serendipitous outcomes. At this event, we are bringing together the developers of the original Scenario Exploration System alongside with the users that apply it to this day in academia, business and policy. We will discuss the different applications and variations of the tool together with the main learnings and benefits to the local communities. We are also welcoming participants of the different variations of the tool to bring a player-perspective to the table.
